More newbie questions

AlteredMind99 Oct 18, 2004 11:35 AM

Ok, so i seem to have the heat thing on track. I have two more questions. First of all, what sort of diet are your younger tegus on? Mine is about 3 months old and doesnt have much interest in fruit, in fact, all the fruit seems to do is attract fruit flies. He doesn't seem very interested in crickets either, but i dont want to feed him just mice cause i know this is fatty and unhealty. Any suggestions?

And secondly, what do you guys use for "humid hides" in your enclosures?

My tegus like to soak in their heated pond which helps with their shedding, and because the water is so warm it evaporates quickly and adds nice humidity to the whole enviroment.

Both my guys really like grapes and cherries, but other than that they don't like fruit that much either. They love all rodents and eggs, as well as ground turkey. You should get some appropriate size rodents and let them eat as many as they will.

Right now my blue eats a few grapes a day, and a small rat or adult mouse almost every day, and sometimes some egg.

My red can eat more than 2 rats every day, in addition to grapes and some egg.
