Sand or Lizard Litter?

tattoogirl212 Oct 18, 2004 12:32 PM

Hi, I am a new poster, and a new owner of 2 juvenile bearded dragons..I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what would be best to line the tank with, sand, or lizard litter. I would greatly appreciate any help/advice anyone has to offer. Thanks
Sharon

Neither, they both carry an impaction risk. How old and how large is your lizard?

He is roughly 3-4 months old, and is about 3 1/2 inches from head to vent.

Ok, as a baby you really don't wan't him on any particulate substrate. He should be on papertowels, newspaper, or shelfliner until he is at least 12" long.

Thanks for the advise, I am probably going to sound pretty ignorant right now, but I am not sure what shelfliner is? Is it readily available @ most pet shops? Thanks again.

I get mine out at walmart, it comes in a variety of different colors and patterns and it's kind of a squishy rubber material. Get the non adhesive kind without the holes. It comes in rolls that I cut down to size for my cages. When soiled I spot clean with a paper towel and a squirt of novalsan and once a week change it out for another then wash the dirty one.

It a disinfectant that is not harmful to reptiles (or pretty much anything else). You can get it at beanfarm.com
