A rosy from mid sept.

jeph Oct 18, 2004 03:37 PM

Hi,
Heres a sub-adult female rosy i saw sept.17th, thats the latest I've seen one out before-(I know they've been seen in every month of the year though). I was at a b-day party in palm desert so i stopped by verbenia on the way home for about 30 minutes, saw this girl and got some pics of her, a riverside county sherrif stopped and told me I had to have a license to take it and I showed him mine but told him I wasnt taking it anyways. He then said he thinks its crazy, and I asked "what, that you need a license to collect reptiles..?", and he said "well that, but that people actually go out of their way to come out here and look for them, i was gonna just give you warning that fish and game will ticket you and wanted to let you know incase you didnt have your license you could leave", which was cool of him. I walked this girl off the road aways to a nice rock pile, so hopefully she stayed close for the night, I saw 2 other cars that i think were driving around looking for herps too, so i dint want her to find herself in their car. I'll post a head shot too-

Hi,
Heres the last shot of her. This was right before she crawled towards the rocks-(you cant see them in the pic, but they were good looking rosy rocks, and lots of rodent droppings between them, so food will be in supply for her).

Nice looking snake.

You say theyve been seen every month of the year? Even adults? I havent seen an adult snake in over a month, just babies.

Hi,
Yeah, I've heard rosys have been seen in every month of the year, even dec. and jan., especially on warm mornings when the temps are around 70-(we got those winter days in cali.,you gotta love that), the earliest I've been out rosy hunting is feb., and know peopel you've found them during that time of year, but I havnt yet, but hopefully next year.
