Indian Python

phreak Oct 18, 2004 03:51 PM

I live in Texas and I'm having a VERY hard time finding an indian. The only to breeders I have found can't sell out of California. If anyone knows of a breeder with the proper legal paperwork to ship them, or better yet knows a breeder in Texas or Oklahoma, let me know please.

Also, not interested in hybrids. Pure only. Thanx

california is the only state where they can be sold out of and there are pretty strict rules on them even then. Maybe you will get lucky and get an e-mail because I doubt many people are going to post.

The laws are strict, but P. molurus can be shipped between any two States in the country as long as shipper and receiver have valid CBW permits issued through US Fish and Wildlife.

I was told that they could be shipped any where with proper paper work, but that the two breeders I know of (Prehistoric Pets being one) don't do it. They just sell in California. I was told if I did some how manage to get a breeding pair, that I could sell them in my state.

at both ends is if they are a gift with no monetary exchange. Otherwise you are correct, if you produce offspring from legal adults, the young can be moved or sold within that particular State without the permit requirement.

Are you 100% sure about this? Because that would be awesome. I can totaly work with that.

That comes directly from the Office of Management Authority, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington DC. CITES classification has nothing to do with the trade of animals within the US. It is solely determined by the US Endangered Species Act provisions and that animals status in such. As it states in the ESA, as long as no money is paid for the snake or no item is traded for the snake, it can be legally transported across State lines. Hope this will help you.

You have helped me amazingly! Thank you. Just the answer I was looking for.

Even though the young were shipped as a gift and no permit was required by the receiver. The individual with the legal adults must still report the movement of these produced young on their annual permit report, even though they were a gift to the receiver. USFW still wants to know where these young went even though no permit was required.
