U. phantasticus??

wmerker Oct 18, 2004 03:52 PM

It seems that the availability of U. phantasticus has really dropped off in the past month or so. Does this coincide with the end of their natural activity period? I am curious whether anyone is captive breeding these animals and might have them available or whether someone might be able to recommend an importer of these animals. Thanks!

Hey, um I don't know how many people breed Phantasticus in the states but you better hope lots are. Last week Uroplatus went on the CITES species list so importation will be almost non-existant. Good luck.

Just because they are CITES listed doesnt mean they wont be imported. THey are CITES Appendix II which just means the trade is monitored. Thats it. They dont even have export quotas yet. Most chameleon species are on Appendix II and they come in all the time.... If they are ever moved to Appendix I, then you might need to worry, but not until then.

Lots of people in the US breed phants by the way. Most of them trade for other bloodlines with other breeders which is why you dont see them for sale that often.
