Since the subject came up on another list, I'll post it here as well. It seems that we've all known vets that don't give out the best husbandry information for box turtles. Well, a very good box turtle article came out in the Exotic DVM journal this year, Volume 6.1, which I think is the March or April issue. See if your vet subscribes to it - it's probably the best article out there on indoor box turtle husbandry, and the pictures are excellent.
I was looking at the website, and Volume 6.3 also has some great looking articles, including "Decision Making in the Release of Injured Wild Freshwater Turtles and Tortoises" by Charles J. Innis, VMD. Heck, while I was writing this I decided to subscribe - $69 a year, plus you can order CDs with just the reptile articles at the end of the year, and order back issues for $5. If your vet is a subscriber, you might ask if he keeps a copy handy to show box turtle owners. If your vet isn't a subscriber, you might mention it to him, or maybe buy a back issue to give as a gift?
