I am new to reptiles, and I noticed there is an upcoming Reptile show in my area.. (New England)... I don't plan on getting any reptiles there, but perhaps equipment if there is some cheap or discounted.... do they have those sort of things there? Do you think it would be worth it for me to go, even if I don't get anything?? I am new to this and any info would help!! thanks!!

Yes, I think it would be worth going even if you don't get anything. If you are thinking about maybe getting something, do some good research between now and the show in case you give into temptation. I don't know about "discounted" items, but the show here in Ohio usually has much better prices on just about everything than any pet store. Enjoy. Duffy

The show in New England will have lots of supplies, cages, books, and supplies available at very reasonable prices. This will be our largest show ever, with more than 120 vendor tables. Several cage/aquarium dealers will be there.

Hope you enjoy the show!

Yes, bring cash to stock up. Things that are good to get at shows are: lighting (Reptisun $10 cheaper per bulb than a pet store, for example), insects (500 count of superworms for $20), frozen feeder rodents (100 pinkies for $30 at some shows), and if you have the right vendor, hard-to-find books on husbandry and ecology/natural history.

At big shows, you also have unique/crafted enclosures for sale.

Plus, you get the chance to meet other herp people in person, pick their brains, and perhaps make lasting friendships with people that understand you! The local/regional shows near me feel almost like a family reunion now, because there are friends that I only get to see at the shows.

I plan on going to the show... are there any vendors anyone would reccomend for food (frozen mice, crickets etc.) ?

If Max Pet is there, go there for insects (if Pat is there, tell him I sent you).

As for rodents, I use someone local to Baltimore, Three Blind Mice, but I doubt they'd be at that show.

Just take an hour or so to see who is selling what. If you get the urge to buy an animal, I recommend buying directly from a breeder, not a retail vendor (one with many different types of animals). A direct breeder will likely be more careful of cross-contamination, will more likely be willing to provide back-up information in the future for any animal you buy, and often sell a healthier animal in the long run.

Do you have a website for the show?
