pezpunk Oct 18, 2004 06:08 PM

my dumeril just had a terrible shed. its not that it was real flaky but it didn't come off in complete pieces. i've been having a hard time keeping the humidity up and need to get her something to rub on. she's in a 55 wide tank on repti bark, any hints

I dont know how you may have your tank set up,which would help some,But I am wondering do you have your lid sealed off?If not you need to do so!Some take duck tape an seal it off except for maybe a 2 in strip along the back, but I personally felt that kinda looked shoddy as !Well you understand so I use a incadesent light in a heat lamp sheild to give light during the day hours! So I went to walmart an bought a role of scotch tape, a roll of glad seran wrap,an a couple of pieces of poster board!I set the light over my heat pad an then took the poster board an cut the propper size an length, leaving only enough room for the light fixture, then completely wrapped the poster board with seran wrap, that way the humidity doesnt ruin the poster board its then sealed,I then sealed this to the lid with the scotch tape!Put your boa's water bowl over the heat pad, this will help some with humidity!Personally I still have to mist a few times a day because if I didnt I only get 45% humidity an that isnt food! When a boa is in shed their humidity should be at least 60% or better for good sheds!Misting wont hurt your boa at all but you dont want to go over board with it cause this can cause ri infection also!Hope this helps!Eric[Hypoboa]

i did a similar thing for my atb...i used a piece of plexiglass and cut a hole in it big enough for the light...

Go to your local kmart and buy a rubermaid that ur snake can fit in and that will fit in the enclosure, cut a whole in it so the snake can get in and out, then go to ur pet store and buy a bag of spagnum moss soak it and put it in the container. your snake will love it and you wont have to mist the cage or wrap it all up u just have to keep the moss nice and damp...your snake will appreciate it...

its a simple task and can be done with good quality duct tape or getting some 1/4" Plexi-glass from Home Depot.Screen tops are worse then overhead lamps at sucking humidity.
