New BD Mom needs help

AussieMom310 Oct 18, 2004 06:37 PM

We were given a bearded dragon about a month ago. He is about 2 years old. We are keeping him in a glass tank and he keeps rubbing his mouth on the tank, his lips are bleeding. He was doing this before we got him and the other owners were putting neosporin on him, we have been doing this and they start to heal and he rubs them again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

this seems to have worked for me. i just recently had this problem and what i was told to do was put white paper on the outside of the tank so he cant see his reflection. thats the main reason i think dragons do this. they try and socialize or whatever it is with there reflection. if your tank is still to glossy use double sided tape and put the paper on the inside of the tank. use double sided tape so crickets cant get under the paper. that will get rid of any reflection and should help you out.
I hope this works for you like it did for me
good luck

Could also be mites, check around his mouth for them, could be trying to itch them off.

What will the mites look like, I don't see anything on him. He seems to do it if he is bored, when he starts it if we get him out and hold him he seems to be content when you put him back. He hasn't done it for a couple days and his mouth is looking better. Is there something better than Neosporin to put on him? I am open to any suggestions, I am new to all of this dragon stuff.
