A while back I posted a message about my two turtles sometimes staring at each other intenly. This afternoon I found one turtle doing the courtship dance (hand fluttering) to the other turtle's face! The other turtle didn't repond in kind---he/she snapped and then swam away. The rejected male retreated to one corner and looked a little discouraged. But later they both basked and swam around together like normal. I was both amazed and amused.

When I bought them 3 months ago, their carapce lengths were 1.25" and 1.5". Now they're both 2" long. I think they're less than 1 year old. Has anyone had turtles that practiced courtship dances at this young age or small size? Thanks for your input!

I've seen my smaller turtle (who's about 1in to 1 1/2 inches) doing this 'mating' dance. I was really surprised that they'd do it when they were this young. I guess its just practice or something. I also wasn't sure if he was a male, but I think he is now since he's done that mating dance thing, unless girls do that too.
