Baby Pueblan Milksnake

PhunkyJess2k3 Jun 28, 2003 06:52 PM

I never had my own snakes, until I met my fiance, who taught me about snakes and keeping them since he had 3 at the time. We now have 5 and the baby male pueblan is mine, as a birthday gift. In the pet shop, he was calm and I handled him, he was just fine. This was in Febuary. Since we got him home, he has never been that way again. I tried to handle him in the beginning, to get him used to it, but he would pee on me or "musk". Either way, all my attempts have failed to settle him down. He's tiny right now, which doesn't make it any easier. I had decided I would just leave him be for a little while, until he grew up a bit, but now I'm thinking this may not be the type of snake for me. I find it important to be able to handle him. Any suggestions? I've attached a picture of him.

Voodoo,

Pueblans are skittish snakes, especially as hatchlings. Even adult Pueblans don't usually seem to enjoy handling. If you want a snake that can be regularly handled, even when small, it's hard to beat a corn snake.

Thanks Tim, for the advice. OVer the weekend, I went to a local Pet Shop and traded in he Milksnake for a ball python. Much more my speed I love my new snake too. It's really too bad about that pretty little milksnake though, but I learned a lesson from the experience. Thanks again!
