Thermostat question

TallTex Oct 18, 2004 09:47 PM

Hello to all, just a quick question from a beginner. I am about to purchase my first snake, a baby spotted python, and I am trying to first purchase everything I will need. I have a heat pad by ZooMed but I do not have any type of thermostat for it. I have seen a few ads on the websites for these and am just wondering what type of thermostat I need and roughly what I should expect to pay.

Thanks!

well you will need a thermometer any way, so go to wlamart and get yourself an indoor/outdoor thermometer for about $12-$15 (the $15 includes humidity monitor as well..what i use.) Then go to Home Depot and get yourself a table lamp dimmer for about $10. This will work great.

I'm glad you are considering a thermostat. You may also want to consider a timer for your setup to get day and night temps that animals have in the wild. There are many good thermostats out there for less than 30 or 40 bucks. I don't mean to advertise, but my reptile rescue has used LLLReptile Supply many times because they have a good selection (they have a listing on the kingsnake.com storefronts). However, many reptile stores will have good thermostat selections. Any another good thing to keep in mind with boas and pythons is humidity . . . hope it's not too much for you think about with your first snake.
