I'm thinking of getting a bearded or rankins

tim5580 Oct 18, 2004 10:05 PM

Hi,
I am thinking of getting a bearded dragon or a rankins dragon. It seems they are hardy pets that don't mind handling. From what I could gather from the caresheets and breeder sites I was looking at they are very similar in diet and care, the only difference really is size, price, and how big their beards are.

So what I am wondering is which one if either is better for someone who doesn't have any bearded dragon or rankin experience. Or if maybe it isn't a good choice and maybe another species would be a better first choice. And if I bought a bearded book would the info be useable for a rankins. And if anything I posted was wrong let me know. Another question I have is about the $2000 bearded dragon in the classifieds, is it really worth that much because I saw other ones with a ton more color for like $100-$150. Sorry it's kind of a long post.

It rubs the lotion on it's skin. It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again.

They both make great pets. I would say the beardie (vitticeps) would make a better starter one because it's bigger and not as fragile. But if you don't have the room for a large cage the rankins may be better for you. Care for the 2 is almost identical. As far as the $2000 dragon goes, lol, he's had it there for a while and I don't think it'll be going anywhere anytime soon. You're right, you can get a much better animal for a couple hundred bucks.

I got room, I have a spare bedroom that is now my herp room and I am turning the smaller bedroom that was the herp room into a feeder room.

I'm, not married to a woman, only my job. Maybe someday if I find the right girl, but I am still 24 so no rush.
