eating habits ...

Dragonrain Oct 18, 2004 10:10 PM

is it ok that my baby corn eats her pinkies butt first? i feed her one F/T pinkie, once a week. She always seems to eat them butt first, and while i don't see this being a problem with the pinkies, will she know to eat them head first when i offer her something bigger, with fur? (i know thats awhile off still, but should i try to break the habit now?) also she never constricts her food either. Also i have another feeding question ...is it normal for the pet store to cut the feet off the pinkies? the pet store i go to does that, it makes it so blood comes out a little when they are thawed i guess, and maybe attracts the snake more??.. but i didn't know if it was normal for pet stores to do that.

My corn babies eat butt first most the time, they also sometime constrict the pinkies(live) and don't end up killing them so whats the point, lol
The snakes will figure out the way as they get older, if they swallow it butt first i tap on the glass before they start and guide their head to the proper spot and then leave.

i havn't heard about the amputation of feet, but it makes sense and is less messy.

Many babies do that. Be happy they are such aggressive eaters.

don't worry. my babies did that also. just let them eat. now that mine are adults they eat head first (f/t). i see no need to be cutting of limbs on the prey. what do snakes do in the wild...certainly they don't have someone around to be cutting up their food for them.
also i wouldn't go banging on the tank when they are eating just so they eat head first. you could end up with a stressed out, non eating snake.
my 2 cents worthy
