HELP>>>>>>Escaped FBT

decompressor Oct 19, 2004 01:47 AM

One of my fire bellies got out and I found him in my ferrets cage...all of my ferrets are still alive but I was wondering just how strong the residue from a FBT jumping around in there would be? Do they secrete when under attack or are there other triggers?...Also is there a chance that they have lost there poison being that they were captive bred?( I only ask because it was mentioned here that it could happen.)Is the poison strong enough to kill a healthy ferret by contact, they are all changing coats for the winter so they are cleaning themselves constantly...I just want to know if I need to start makin vet appointments. Thanks

Unless they actually chewed on him.. I doubt there is any cause for alarm. Their toxin is more of an irritant than an actual poison. I think your ferrets will be fine... Best of luck.

the ferret would have to pretty much swallow him, even then the worst you might get would be a very sick ferret for a while. although it is possible it would kill the ferret if it did swollow it i would think its big enough to be ok. you gotta watch those firebellies they are the MASTERS of escape. my toads name is houdini
