Dragon not eating

shyne Oct 19, 2004 03:28 AM

My bd hasn't eaten anything in months... He only seems to be interested in live food, which is common, but lately he is hardly even as interested in crickets as he was before. The only thing he will eat is wax worms and the odd (few) crickets. I don't buy these often for him so I decided to feed him myself. When I feed him I mash up his pellets and put them in a little bowl of warm water(not much water) with some calcium powder sprinkled in and let them dissolve mostly. I use a syringe to feed it to him through the side of his mouth and he swallows it that way. I also mash up bananas and feed him that and he seems to get alot in that way--he licks it off a spoon. I was just wondering if this is ok to do? He is definitely not happy with me doing this but I want him to eat... I don't want to sound ignorant but I haven't ever taken him in to get him checked out, and don't think I ever will because I don't know where I'd even begin looking. I'm just curious if what I'm doing is ok and isn't harmful to him?? and if anyone can suggest a way I can get him interested in eating again, if there is any way?

By the way, he hasn't had a shed in I don't know HOW long... it's been quite a long time. But he does go poo almost every time I give him a bath. He has quite a bit of energy whenever I take him out of his cage, but while he's in his cage all he ever does is sleep.

You really need to take him to a vet, and bring a fresh fecal sample with you. It sounds like it may be parasites. Is what you're doing harmfull??? Short term no, long term yes.
