My recently purchased red/brown African House snake graced my home by laying 5 eggs this morning. Two were white, two were stained half brown and one egg was uniformly LIVER COLORED (though perfectly formed). My guess is that it is a slug though I have never seen a slug that looks like this. It looks like the entire egg was dipped in dye.

Any thoughts?

I've never seen a liver-colored egg. All the slugs I've ever seen were that sort of yellowish or brownish color. A liver-colored one would be sort of hard to candle, wouldn't it?

Hmmm...is it the color of liver that's been cooked in butter and onions, fried, or raw?

Definitly! It has dried now and is in the incubator. It is now a perfect uniform Mocca, and very nicely formed.

I actually have had house snakes lay these liver colored slugs on several occassions. I prefer to think of them as mocha colored as it sounds less disgusting, but yes, they are liver colored greasy slugs.

I don't think I can remember any other species laying these little mocha slugs.
