Het for Albino Black Back Female, pic and questions...

RyanT Oct 19, 2004 07:43 AM

Hi. I got this female last week. I think she's really nice. I haven't kept ball pythons since I was about 10 years old but I am really getting back into them. She is an '02 Bob Clark animal. And a 100% het. The fact that she's a full black back just makes her even better. I also got an amazing deal on her, so I couldn't be happier with her. I have a question though, is the BB trait genetic? And with just one breeding? How does that work? I've been focusing on boas for a long time and I'm just getting my feet wet with ball genetics. This forum is so interesting though. There aren't TOO many morphs that are really attracting me yet but there are a few that I would love to work with eventually. 15 years ago, there were no "morphs" that I knew of. Any comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks. Ryan.

Gotta love Black Backs!

As far as I know.....the BBs that have proven out to be genetic are dominant/co-dominant....Corey Woods has two lines of both...CV Exotics has a dom. line...Joe Compel has (at the moment classified) as a co-dom line with the Brown Back. Jared Horenstein also has a co-dom line. These are just a couple examples. The only recessive line I know of is the Clown.....and that's really a Black Back in it's own league!

The only way to confirm yours being genetic is of course to breed her. I'd say if you produce a white back albino(s) and a black back(s) with your het pair in the first breeding.....you have a genetic line of black back.

I know of no "het" black backs proving out.......if someone else has....please feel me in.

You got a good looking couple.......Best of luck with them.
