Lg not eating like she used to

mefingas Oct 19, 2004 12:45 PM

In June we got a 1 yr old lg from a breeder. Once she got used to us she used to eat everything we set in front of her. We were feeding her 3 large crickets 3 times a week, 4 mealworms 3 times a week and then wax worms as a treat. Well we moved her from Az to Mi and now she wont eat crickets at all and well only eat about 10 mealworms a week total and 1 or 2 wax worms. Should we be worried? She hasnt looked like she has lost any weight and is still shedding every 3 weeks like clock work. How much should she be eating? Any help would be great. Thanks-Morgan

Alot of people notice a dramatic change in their gecko's eating behaviour after they move, put their gecko into a new cage or even just when they first get home after buying them. Leopard Geckos can stress easily when being moved around and it can take up to 2 weeks for them to adjust properly to their new surroundings, even if they don't eat at all. How long has it been since you moved there? I doubt she has parasites. More then likely thrown off from the move. Take care.

don't take this the wrong way but i don't htink she was eating very much in the first place. Mine eat 10 mealies every other day. Some i've heard eat in the 20-30 item range.
I've read, never any personal experience, that waxworms are addicting to leos. Is your leo still eating the waxworms but not other food? If so she may be holding out for her treat like a spoiled kid with sweets :D

Anyhue good luck

She only gets waxworms every once in a while and usually just 2 after a shed. And we feed her a little more then what the breader is feeding her. Before she got picky she was eating a lot. But now that she is lazy and wont eat crickets its harder to get her to eat as much. I leave out more mealworms but she only eats about half of what I put out for her. I am wondering if its the mealworms. The ones we got in arizona were a little bigger and softer. I am thinking about finding a new place to buy mealworms.

We have moved into this place a month ago and her cage is the same. When we first moved in she ate fine except not eating crickets. But in the last two weeks she only eats about half as much. So I am confused, she should be adjusted by now.
