Young Bearded Dragon w/ no appetite?

Rez Oct 19, 2004 01:34 PM

I've recently purchased my first Bearded Dragon. I believe it's approximately 2 months old.
Before I got it, the pet shop owner gave me a little demonstration on how they eat. The little dragon darted right for the crickets fed to him. I purchased him and allowed the little guy to settle down in his new home. I tried feeding it a couple of small gutloaded crickets the day after and it doesn't seem interested. I've also tried recommended greens and veggies, but it won't budge.
It's now his 3rd day with us and all he does is bask on his rock. Is there something wrong with him or is he still getting adjusted to his new home?

First off a vet visit for a new pet reptile is always recommendable. Be sure to provide pleanty of hide spots where the beardie can copmpletely remove itself from site. This may be unappealing to you but for the sake of his health its important. Also mist him daily. If he isnt eating it is also possible that he isnt drinking either. this will help some in preventing dehydration. In addition, be sure that his cage temp is anywhere between 90 and 100 degrees under his basking site and between 75 and 80 at the other end of the terrarium. If his eating habits do not improve within a week or less see a veterinarian imediately! In this case, the problem could be the relust of a far more serious infection. Hope this helps and good luck!
