My BP did that last time I fed her. She only did it twice and both times it was while she was swallowing. I thought that since she had never made the noise before, and she has been fine since then, that it was just the sound of her breathing while her throat was full of food. But I'm newer to this than you are so I could be wrong.
sometimes it is easy to confuse the two. Can we get some more info?
temps?
humidity?
substrate?
type of heat source?
what kind of thermometer?
type of cage (aquarium, rubbermaid, etc)?
describe the ventilation?

Well...now that i think about it... My python is a mild mannered guy except when he eats. When i bring that mouse into the room or he can tell its feeding time, he stops being mild mannered and goes crazy. He was in his feeding cage and i was preparing to drop the mouse in when i heard the noise...it was kinda... SSSSSSSSSss...........A-SSssssssssss. Thats a hiss then right?
My macklot's python was doing the same thing about a year ago... the noise was definitely a wheeze and not a hiss though. He would wheeze randomly -- sometimes in the cage, sometimes when I had him out for "field trips." I was told by a local (very experienced!) reptile breeder that it was a sign of a respiratory problem and to just bump the temps up a little bit and see if that took care of it. It did! He's been wheeze-free for over a year now.
Good luck!
