Thanks for the kind words.
I know a little about Milk Thistle, but not really a lot. It's not something that I have used.
I know that an extract from the seed is used to treat some liver disorders and at times to treat female mammals (mostly human) for lactation disorders such as poor milk production.
It has the property of increasing bile production and is said to possibly help with liver diseases such as Hepatitis-C. It has been used in Europe for centuries for this. It is not without side effects though, such as diarrhea, sweating, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and collapse. It also can have pharmacokinetic interactions with other medications. It has the potential to modulate cytochrome P450 activity and involve in interactions with conventional drugs, therefore should not be used without doctor's knowledge if other treatment is being used.
our vet is having us use it on a beardy with raised liver enzyme. we are useing a liqiud form for humans diluted 1/50 and giving .10cc. at first i was not happy about the idea of a herbal remedy but it seems a lot of ppl have heard of it and have used it with success. still got me a little worried. time will tell. again thanks for the help, i'll keep everyone informed
almost every drug in existence has it's roots in an herbal remedy. Even aspirin came from Native Americans chewing on willow twigs for headache. Penicillin came from a mold. Cancer drugs are made from tree bark. Even opiate painkillers came from a flower.
