Housing BP together

rob1217r Oct 19, 2004 05:03 PM

I was thinking about getting a male BP of the same age to go with my female, and was planning on housing them together, but after searching through the forums I see that it is a terrible idea. I happened upon several pictures of boas that had eaten their house mate - terrible. I figure BP wouldn't do that, but I don't want to risk it.

I currently have my female in a 6x2x1.5 with the screen top hinged in the middle and was wondering if there is any good ideas on how to possibly make a home made divider, or if it is even a good idea to house them in the same tank even with a divider. I was thinking of sliding in a piece of glass or plexi-glass but don't know how to secure it. I would like to be able to remove the divider in the future if I ever wanted to.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's a picture of what my cage looks like (it's on a stand now with a heating pad, at the time of the picture I had just got the cage but not the new heating pad or stand)

im thinking yoou could run little runners along the sides and bottom for a piece of glass/wood that can slide in and out.

Do you have any ideas on a good way to attach the runners?

Thanks! Is that something I could find at a pet store?

get it at home depot. More choices, better info, and less $$$.

note
"home depot" means any large home improvement store (lowes, local hardware store, etc)

Thank you again! I'll post a pic of the addition if I end up getting another BP.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but who cares.

Housing bp's together is not necessarily as bad as all these folks will make it out to be. In fact, many people in the hobby do it. They've just learned not to say it here, where they'll get flamed by the know-it-all's. I've housed bp's together, with both animals continuing to feed regularly, breed, they never bit each other, never showed outward signs of being stressed. Do what you like. If the animals don't care for it, get another enclosure for one of them. After all, even with a divider, you'll have to provide a heat gradient on both sides, and in fact do everything twice. Just skip the whole pain-in-the-tookas of putting a divider in there (which I'd imagine would make cleaning it a real pain!) and pry open that wallet to buy another enclosure. After you have it, then get the second snake. Or, try them together.

It's your choice, don't get fooled into thinking that a majority opinion is the same thing as the "correct" answer.

Almost forgot. The pairs I've kept together were already in my possession for a long time, so I never had to worry about spreading parasites or diseases. Putting a fresh purchase in with you current captive may open you up to an infection or infestation!
