With the Yellowbelly craze in full gear, and everyone frantic to flip each of their Normals in hopes of financial reward, I have to agree...it's very tempting.
Now...I know very well that my Blushing Banded is no Yellowbelly, but I must admit that I was a bit concerned when she first arrived.
Being a Newbie to the glorious world of Ball Pythons, I knew nothing of the elusive Yellowbelly. I was familiar with only a handful of so-called morphs -- the ones I could readily afford: Reduced Pattern, Granite, Banded.
I received my Blushing Banded (adding "Blushing" for a more poetic effect) and immediately examined her, pointing out interesting patterns to my eager-to-learn wife. As I flipped the animal over, I immediately remarked that its belly seemed to be a tinge yellow, at least enough so that the color would come to mind.
I'd never really thought about the animal as a potential Yellowbelly until yesterday. While reading a description of a yellowbelly online (this forum, in fact), I remembered the light discoloration of my Blushing Bandid. It's interesting...I know very well that the animal is indeed nowhere close to being an official Yellowbelly, but she does share many similar traits.
Her belly is almost clear -- three (3) scales wide -- with a slightly yellow tinge, sometimes appearing as large blotches and growing into a more distinct darker yellow (yet still faint) closer to the tail. On her nearly spotless belly are a few very small "check marks". Not enough to claim "Yellowbelly", but perhaps half a dozen. And nearing her tail, on the outer edges of her three-scale belly, are what I can only describe as "marker traits" for Piebald (black lines following the length of the tail).
Perhaps if she had had a few more "check marks", I could buy that new Jeep Rubicon. For now, I'll have to commit myself to meandering "what ifs" and a free membership into the Wannabe Yellowbelly Club.
