I have a normal X red, but s/he is only 10 weeks and just starting to show some red. The big problem is I can't get her color to show in any pictures. Same as my male, he is a beautiful cream with lavender side bars.I just tried a new film, so I'll see who that looks, other wise I'm getting a new camera. I will post pictures when I get some good ones.

FWIW about camera:

get a low cost 3 MegaPixel digital camera.

that will have plenty of resolution for photos on web sites and smaller shots.

why:

one reason film cameras may have development issues you can't adjust.

also any decent digital camera will let you chnage some settings for color-tempature.

the kind of lights you use affeacts the way the camera "sees" the colors.
most film is made for daylight or indors with home lights.

if you have reptile lights and use normal film it may throw the color balance and make the dragon look wrong.

with a decent digital cam you can adjust the way it reads the light and if you need to you can correct the photo with a paint program.

no I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT FAKING THE PHOTO!!!!

I am talking about color correction that some times must be done to make a photo look right.

I am not a pro but have done some stuff....

post back if you want more info and I'll try to help.

I will be getting a digital soon I hope. It would be better to know what works instead of guessing. Any suggestion you have would be greatly appreciated.

a few starting tips:

1) Zoom feature
digital zoom is about worthless! you want as much optical zoom as you can get. digital zoom tends to make pixelated images. also in most cameras you can set digital zoom to "disabled" to help with this.

2) Addon Lenses
many midrange to better digital cameras can have an adapter with lenses for telephoto (long range) and macro (very close)
say you want to take a photo of the dragons toe-nail to show a break, you want a macro shot. also get the addon lenses when you get the camera ... they tend to be model specific and may not be found later; you may have to order them form the camera Mfg. as local camera stores tend not to stock them.

3) 35 mm body
with lenses one route if you want to get all kiinds of stuff is to get a 35mm body. it will cost a bit more but will allow you to use standard 35mm lenses you can buy at many stores.

4) light and color

BIG ONE HERE!!

go find a few books on how to take photos that talk about light.
optics and light can be a big subject to cover.
for example the lights you buy have a "COlor Tempature" rating that affects how things look.
for example most hoome lights are rather "Yellow"
my saltwater tank has lights that are more "Blue"
if you take a digital camera that is set for the defaults and shoot my saltwater tank the photo will look wrong.
you have to chnage the color temp of the camera
(or the flim form old cameras)
or have it developed with color correction.

any more ??
