Heat tape, combining 10 inch and 3 inch?????

reptilesintampa Oct 20, 2004 10:51 AM

Designing a new room for my ball pythons, I'm going to use back heat, and will be building two racks for them (one for adults 28quart sterilite tubs, and one for babies shoebox 12 quart). Each will be 10 tubs high and two tubs wide, I'd like to use a single theormostat with 10inch wide heat tape for the larger tubs and only 3 inch heat tape for the smaller tubs. This is where my questions is, can I combine the two different size heat tapes and will this work? Thanks for the feedback...

Further info to avoid questions, I'm using back heat as the ambient room temp is 82 with other boa and monitor cages emmiting heat into the room. Thanks again for the help.

Combining the two sizes i would advise against. Reason being is that off one source the 11" is higher wattage then the 3" and may cause you issues when heating since the 11" will get hotter it may cause issues on the setup w / 3" tape

I agree with Mr Junglehabitats. In conclusion, use a thermostat for each rack being that each rack will have different dimensions and a different watt-density of heater.

Assorted rosy boas, some annulata. That's it.

the same size.seeing that 27qt. and 12qt. tubs are the appox. the same height.if you build the racks so that the 27qt. tubs are exposed length wise in each level, you could have one 27 qt. per level OR two 12qt. tubs per level.this would give you verasility and all the racks would be heated the same thus allowing you to use one thermostat.have fun!
