Kinked tail

geckos777 Oct 20, 2004 12:35 PM

hey last week at the hamberg pa show I bought myself two normal female leos and as a was leaving my girlfriend surprised me with what i belive is a mail tremper albino, it looks just like the pics recently posted on this forum, she told me some kid there was tring to get rid of it and sold it to her for only 40 dollars. Any way when we got home i noticed that it had a kink at the tip of his tail, is this something i should be concerned with or is there something i can do. Other then that he seems healthy, hes about 3 to 4in., he has been eating crickets, and he had just shed lastnight, he is active and realy doesnt mind being handled. O and one more question will i be able to breed him with the 3 normal females i have now.(he is in a seperate tank then the other 3)please reply with any advice, thanks

where exactly is the kink? If it is near his vent area you might have a problem breeding him later. If it is not near his vent I wouldn't worry about it. In that case it is merely cosmetic. As long as he has got his appetite and is defecating normally you've got little to worry about. It would also help if you could post a picture.

Kinked tails are often the result of inbreeding. I wouldn't recommend using him as a breeder, because he can pass on the trait.

they can also be a product of poor husbandry. For example, if something in his cage was poorly fastened and fell on his tail, the tail would develop a kink, but not fall off.

Well the kinked tail....is normally from inbreeding. It can be passed on to it's offspring. As far as breeding....well you can breed him to your females, but you need to make sure they are all mature enough. 1 year and atleast 50 grams. Hope this answers your question. I was at the Hamburg show as well....walked away with nothing. When we went in we made a deal that we wouldn't buy anything unless it was a morph we needed to breed with something we already had or a new morph we didn't have....and we seen neither.
