Lamp for baby painted turtle

carrey Oct 20, 2004 01:52 PM

Hello all.

I recently bought a

"Super UV Coil-Lamp"
which is made by ESU Reptile

The package says it has
UVB rays (290nm - 320nm)
and UVA rays (320nm - 400nm)

Is this an appropriate basking light for my baby painted turtle? I will need an additional heat lamp too right? Also, should I turn these lamps off at night?

Does your light produce noticable heat? If not, then you WILL need a heated basking light or CHE (ceramic heat emitter) in addition to this light. A regular household lightbulb would be fine. If using a 10 gallon or 20 long tank, use a 60 or 75 watt bulb.
