Feeding pre-killed pinkies

charky2002 Oct 20, 2004 05:11 PM

I have a 15 inch argentine black and white tegu and I've been trying to get him to take some small pinkies. He won't take the pre-killed so I was thinking about trying live and try to switch over to prekilled slowly. My question is will this method work or should I keep trying with the prekilled...I don't want him to be the kind of reptile that will only eat live. I use this method with my snakes and it almost always works... will the tegu be the same way??? Any tips would be great

Pink mice only come dead because they are never born to say. They are fetus mice if i am correct but i could be wrong. My baby tegu eats them down no problem and i'm now try to start her on fuzzy mice which is a task. If you have a pair of tongs or long needle nose pliers which is what i use, you can take the mouse and dangle it in front of his nose and make sure he licks it since that is how he smells and he might just eat it. If not put it in a dish.

Its my understanding that pinkie mice are just newborn mice that arrive very much alive. It tried tongs already...no luck so far unfortunatly but i'm going to try again.

try warming the pinkies with boiling water. i leave mine in for a few minutes. then put them in a dish. and my golden's love em!!

if there cold they will appear dead and crappy to eat, but warm they will appear still alive. put em in and walk away.

if your already warming them i can'nt think of anything else.
and yes pinkies are very very young alive baby mice.
