UPDATE on my new beardie

five-o Oct 20, 2004 05:44 PM

I first posted here in August when I first got him. He was very small-about 4 our five inches with his tail. Now he is about 10" long. I can't believe how fast they grow. He is very well behaved except in the morning. Eats exceptionally well, and even catches crickets in mid air. This was a LLL reptile dragon and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm not sure how much to feed him, because he's eating about 30 1/2 to inch crickets a day plus greens. Should I give him more if he wants it?

Feed him as much as he can pack down in 10 minutes 2-3 times a day.

OK i bought my little girl in august also. august 25th to be exact and she was about 9 inches when i got her now she is 14 1/2 inches. growing like a weed. the question is you say to feed 3 times a day as many as they can fit in within 10 minutes. I dont feed mine that often but i do leave pellet food in there with her so she can snack on when i am not ther to give her crickets. the question is she is so freaking fat. I am thinking she is over weight. now if i fed her 2 or 3 times a day as many as she could get in 10 minutes she would be even fatter. How do i know if she is to fat or not?
I dont want a fat over weight lizard. there is enough obesiti in this country as it is. lol

I dunno. I feed mine about 15-20 per feeding twice a day plus green leafy vegies. I am not an expert, but I would say that when hey are young they need live food that is packed with nutrients. Maybe the canned food is high in fat. They are suppose to a wide lizard which makes them look fat. Also, make sure you have a UVB light and good temps above 105 deg for digestion. Good luck

i dont use canned food. i use dry pellets. just as a suppliment to the greens and crickets. i just started using it. and she was fat well before the dry food. maybe thats just how she is suppose to look. she sure is cute though. lol
good luck with yours
