Thinking of getting back into breeding Drymarchon

Chuck_Elliott Oct 20, 2004 06:38 PM

I have been off long enough. I am thinking of getting back into breeding Indigos. I think I want to try to get some of my old stock to use. Does anybody know someone that has my stock?
I want the super red throat D.c.couperi if possible. I may also be interested in D.c. corais.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome back!

When I first started following this forum perhaps 4 or 5 years ago everyone said that you were "the man" when it comes to drymarchon. Why did you get out of them?

I had some personnel health issues that have been resolved. At that time I just couldn't keep up with my 400 or so snakes and thousands of mice and rats, etc....
I don't want to get that big ever again, just a pair or two to play with. My first love was always the couperis so I think that would be my best way to restart. Next would be corais corais as they were one of the bigger challanges of all the several different subspecies of Drymarchon that I bred.

Thanks for asking.

What did you find challanging about corais corais?

I found the babies hard to get started...but other than that,
I found them MUCH easier to breed than couperi or erebennus.

I guess that my first female was wild caught that I bred with a CB male. She had to get acclimated which took awhile. I guess I bred so many couperis that the corais seemed a little more stubborn...But the giant yellow animals are something to behold, aren't they?

Hi Chuck. I have one of your female Yellowtails (a MONSTER) and possibly one of your Texans and one of your rubidus, unfortunately they are integral parts of my breeding projects. Drop me an email and we can talk about offspring though, if you are interested in that.

Good to have you back Chuck; you are the primary reason why I have been so successful working with eastern indigos and hope you get back into it. I do have 1.2 couperi that originated from you (jet black phase). Hope to see you around here more often.

It's hard to stay away huh?

Although I don't have your bloodline, I have good solid genetics in my group, and I usually produce at least a few super reds annually. I'm currently only working with couperi and erebennus.

Hi Chuck,

Good to hear from you. I have one of your 00 Males. I live in Ladera Ranch now, very close to you. Still have that gold 57. We just restored a 70 El Camino with a 454 big block. It is sweet. Email me and we can talk.

Good to hear you're thinking of getting back in the game. Make sure while you're sitting there enjoying your new charges that you check in on the forum occasionally and share your knowledge.

Doug
I have been monitoring the forum lately. I haven't jumped in yet, still getting my feet wet. Don't want to jump in and step on any toes.
I've gotten some great response and it really makes me feel greatfull. So far it sounds like a great group of folks here in this forum.
I guess I will need to update my info on your website too.
Take care my friend.
Chuck
