Veiled Cham Egg Development Question

Magick Oct 20, 2004 07:09 PM

I have chameleon eggs in a homemade incubator (aquarium style) at about 78 degrees. They were laid 4 and a half months ago and seem to be doing well. That was up until tonight when I checked on them I found an egg had split open and there was a fairly well developed embryo. I could make out all of its parts, although it was not viable. My question is "Did I do anything wrong?" and any idea how much longer the other eggs will take to hatch (considering that the embryo seemed fairly far along)? I know that nobody can give me an acurate "due date", but this is my first clutch and seeing the embryo actually made me realize that they might actually hatch! Any advice, or things to watch for at the end of the incubation period?

What do you mean by well developed embryos? Could you see head, tail, and legs?

There are water dragons, chameleons, frilled dragons, pythons, and monitors in my jungle room.

Ed,

Yes, all parts were easily identified... the skin was a pinkish white color, semi-transparent, it may have been 2" STL (alot bigger than I would expect from a 4 1/2 month old egg) it's eyes were open and perfectly formed... By the looks of it, only the skin seemed premature.
