sorry so long...
I have read many of your replies to what seems to some as basic questions by "ignorant" new beardie owners. You have always given good advice and given it with patience. Would you or any others mind if I occasionally e-mailed you with questions concerning dragons? I have learned so much from this forum but have felt a little uncomfortable by asking what seems to be "stupid" questions. Nothing is worse than feeling like you made a poor choice in taking in an animal in your home just to be reminded that you didn't put in enough effort to learn about them. I have been an office manager in a vet office for 11 years and know the frustration of seeing animals not being properly cared for. Unfortunately sometimes our best to learn doesn't always "pan out". I appreciate your time and look foward to getting advise from those of you who are willing to teach others.

thank you.

Just because someone doesnt know some basic things doesnt make them ignorant. They could have asked the petstore they bought there dragon from or any other animal advice and we all know that many petstores give the wrong advice. They also could have picked up a book and yes even some of the books out there dont have the correct advice. they ask the questions even the simple ones so the experts can give them the answer. And as any teacher will tell you there is no such thing as a stupid question.
Are they ignorant? No. uniformed? yes. Even if they read the books and everything else out there, some will still ask the question on here so the highly experienced people can answer. I know that i ask questions from time to time just so i make sure i am doing it right. Even if the book says one thing i would like to hear it from someone who has alot of experience.
Like using calci sand. Every petstore will recomend it even the books do. but 99% of the people in here will tell you not to. I know i bought some until heartmountain told me not to. so that stuff lasted a day in my tank before i canned it.
Not sure what i am getting at here been typing to long now and the sox are making records. catch you all later

that's exactly my point. we agree. not all people feel this way. (see post re:ignorance....posted yesterday or so.) i thought i did the right thing but there seem to be people who think some of us didn't do enough. guess i got my feelings hurt after reading that post. i appreciate all i have learned from so many of you on here.

thanks soo much. i've only had dezzie for 3 weeks now but i'm totally attached. i hope to post a pic soon. now that i've started crickets (i was told she could have a veggie / pellet only diet)she seems to be growing even faster! she sleeps curled in my hand for an hour or so every night at her "lights out" and seems to love the attention. I have a feeling she's going to be a fantastic pet!

InTheBlue Oct 20, 2004 10:13 PM

Yeah they're great! It still amazes me how personable they are. Each with their own little personality. Be carefull though.... They become addictive...LOL

as long as i know not everyone is irritated by these basic questions i'll continue to post them. thank you! btw...you have a nice website HM...will you have babies available early next year?

p.s. about them being addictive...when i went to buy crickets they had the cutest little guy with lots of orange and almost gave in! i need to get my little guy going first and when i get the hang of this then maybe i can get another!

heartmountain Oct 20, 2004 10:36 PM

I've always got babies available lol. I've got 60 in the other room right now just waiting on pics and I'll get them posted over in the classifieds, another 60 that just need a couple more weeks and my incubators are filling up again. It's a never ending cycle lol, and YES they are addictive.

Oh gosh! I may have to see if i can get another tank set up! this is not cheap...lol! I'll have to get in touch with you on another baby! can juvies be kept together for a little while, if they are about the same size? and can two females be raised and then kept together long-term?

heartmountain Oct 21, 2004 12:20 AM

"can juvies be kept together for a little while, if they are about the same size? and can two females be raised and then kept together long-term?"

Yes and no, Juvies and babies can be housed together until about 4-5 months old but you do run the risk of nips and injuries. Females have been successfully housed together for life but you have to keep a close eye on them and sometimes for no reason at all one will attack the other.

Oh, and don't worry about posting newbie questions we were all new at some point. I sure as hell didn't wake up one day knowing what I know, most of it was through trial and error and talking with other people and it's taken over half my life (longer than a lot of the people here have even been alive lol.)
