My veiled got raped... She's in bad shape....

TheFrogGuy Oct 20, 2004 10:57 PM

Hello all, The other day I walked into my room find that somehow my male veiled had climbed into the female's cage. When I found the female it looked like she took a pretty bad nip to the face.... her eyes were swelled shut, and you could see evidence of bite marks.

My female is about 9-10 months old, so she's at breeding age. But she's only 3.5 inches from snout to vent, and she's displaying the gravid coloration. Should I be worried? Is she too small to carry eggs? I figure I can get her healed up within a week or so, but still not sure if she's big enough to be carrying eggs.

She may not successfully develop the clutch. Hard to say. I'd suggest watching for changes in coloration...non-receptive coloration can look like gravid coloration sometimes. Also start weighing her to check for development of eggs. Maybe she won't end up being gravid. Make sure she can't see the male to keep her stress level down. Put a topical antiseptic like triple antibiotic or Polysporin on her bites just to be safe.
