Feeder Frogs/Toads for Hognose...

koenigspythons Oct 20, 2004 11:19 PM

Just curious as to which frogs or toads are best to feed to hognose? Are the albino African frogs (the aquatic ones found in petstore aquariums) okay to use as food? What seems to be the cheapest and most available frog/toad to feed hognose?

Any ideas and help are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Switching an Eastern Hog over to mice by scenting, etc. is of course the best option. This can be done, it sometimes just takes time. Bullfrog tadpoles can be bought sometimes at bait shops. I would freeze them for at least 2 weeks, to kill any parasites. Taking amphibians from the wild is generally not a good option, as this affects the wild ecosystem, which is already being overrun by lots of other factors. Just my 10 cents.

There are none available commercially. This is one of many reasons why it is best to feed them mice.
