EJ, anyone...who is the woman

that has the sulcata with the most perfect captive-raised carpace that I have ever seen? I think she's in southern CA and that he grazed almost exclusively on Bermuda grass and was outdoors 24/7. I want to say Georgia or Linda or??? This has been a couple of years ago or more when Esther (with Albrecht and Chanel)was posting regularly. I would love to see what that tortoise looks like now. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks.

Is this the tortoise you are looking for? Annie is now 7yrs old and about 10-12 pounds. I haven't weighed her in a while. As you can see by the pic it has been raining here. We got her a larger house this summer and she hates it. I had to drag her out from behind the rose bushes and lock her in her house to keep her out of the rain. She has scraped the side of her shell some rubbing against the stucco of the house.

oooo I had your name right and everything! She's stunning and HUGE! Virgie's just puttering along. Thanks for posting the photos. How have you been? I've gone wild and now have Virgie, plus 2 Greeks, 2 Russians, 4 3-toed box turtles, 4 red-eared sliders, a stinkpot, a razorback musk and I'm fostering a hit-by-car Eastern box that has braces on her shell. I have lost my mind.

Turtles and tortoises are addictive. I added two more three toe box turtles to the 22 I already have. Someone at my husband's work was giving them away and I said I would only take them if they were females and of course they were. We put up a permanent fence to separate Annie from our dogs. If you look really closely at the pics you will see a couple of spots of reddish-brown paint on her, she couldn't resist investigating what was going on. We have become a home of animals, as the two oldest kids have moved out they have left pets behind, a lovebird, chinchilla and a dog. I also still have our hingeback tortoise Sly, who I call the worlds laziest tortoise. He sits for weeks inside his house without coming out, however about once a summer he will find a way to get out of his enclosure and go exploring the backyard.

Here is a pic of one I hatched (named Melvin; I don't know why!) about three years ago and is just larger than the size of a softball. This is NOT an experiment in cruelty, but I've basically done nothing for this animal other than provide a place to live outside year round (Florida) that has Bahia grass to graze on (dug it's own burrow). The shell is very hard and the tortoise is in great shape from what I can tell so I'm going to leave well enough alone and let it just live it's life with no additional supplement from me.

I believe it may be Richard Fife that raised one (sulcata) ONLY on Mazuri tortoise diet and it too was absolutely perfect!!! It show there is more to this than what we think is 'the norm' for proper captive husbandry.

Stunning! I am impressed. I wish I was able to provide year round grazing. It would certainly make things easier. I struggle and don't think I'm doing too bad. Virgie is 4 years old and about 8" 2#. I'm in no hurry. Keep up the good work. A boyfriend worthy of the beautiful Annie.
