How come my gecko makes no noise? And.... And....

tim5580 Oct 21, 2004 12:10 AM

Mine makes no noises. From his body I mean, he makes noise if he walks on something or scratches. I hear people say their's screams, or makes noise at night, or when it is scared or hurt. Could there be something wrong with mine? I have never intentionally tried to scare or hurt it, but I am sure I've scared it,a lot at first probably, I am about 200x his size and that would scare me if it picked me up or held me in it's hand, or looked at me really close.

And do you think me smoking cigarettes bothers the gecko (the smoke, not the fact of me smoking)? I don't breath it on him, he's just in my bedroom with the computer. He gets his own room next week. And do you think the radio bothers him? I'm not blasting Slipknot (thats for the car), I just have the classical station on lightly in the background.

Firstly, Leopard aren't vocal animals, so its normal that you don't hear them. Like you said yourself if you don't scare it then they won't make noises, screaming is frequent in hatchlings.
Next, smoking will affect everything and anything around you, its called Second hand smoking. Not sure where you're from but there are ads all over the place and on the cartons telling you its a killer.
Lastly, music if not blasting will not bother them, since I doubt music is on 24/7. Being a new owner you do tend to over worry about everything, but their tough cuz Im the laziest person on earth and mine are still Genki.

Hehe, my leo has to listen to ozzy, slipknot and korn all day...but he seems to like ozzy. When I first brought my leo home he was very young and he screamed a couple times, Ive heard him scream once after that but never after that.

I have this Blizzard who used to scream and flip out whenever I tried to get her out of her cage for cleaning or just try to handle her for a minute to her used to me. I've tamed her to the point where she only makes soft grunts when I hold her and she's very gentle, but still not sure she enjoys the handling, lol. Also, my parents had some friends spend the week here and they had to stay in my room(Grr..) and they said that heard Ron "Singing".. I asked the wife and she described it as chirping, which I have never heard Ron do, lol. So you never know..

I used to live in a really small apartment, I keep my leos tank in the living area, when I watch TV at night (I never turn on the lights, except their red light! lol), I would sit right next to the leos' tank and watch them; and one night I was watching them climbing their log, and one of them (Angelica (male), now renamed Gel) slipped and he let out his first "BEEP". Ever since then, he makes a loud "Beep" sound whenever he wakes up and stretch in the evening ~6:45pm
