It's a sad state of affairs when the local, county, or even state governments deny individuals the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Here's a man that obviously was a responsible owner of reptiles. Just because a few narrow minded people in the county decided that it should be illegal to own reptiles, a persons constitional right to the pursuit of happiness has been trampled. People need to become involved in their local governments to voice their preferences or others will. Unfortunately we live in a democracy that allows the opinions of the few to makes rules for the many, especially on the local government level.
I agree with you 100%. The venomous, maybe.. but pythons, especially balls? No reason to waste time enacting a ban on a harmless reptile. According to the statute even a 4" skink from Petco is banned!

That is just awful. "They're happy and healthy where they are, but we're taking them from you when we could be out tracking down abused/neglected animals". My husband and I love the pets we have, and one of our criteria for relocating in a few years has been state and local law concerning our exotics.
People laugh at me sometimes when I get passionate about voting, but really, if you're not involved in your government, other people can make some pretty bad decisions for you. My husband picked up a t-shirt at the Daytona show that says, "I have reptiles, and I vote". Now all my herp friends want one, and non-herpers come up and ask us about it, because they have no idea that local government regulates pet keeping at all! It's been a great educational tool. So get involved, and for goodness' sake, VOTE when you get the chance, even if you think it may not have anything to do with you right now.
