Texas baird . . . .>

terryp Oct 21, 2004 10:43 AM

Believe it or not, I favor the dark rich colors of Texas bairds like this one. These are some of the best bairds I've seen. The nice purples and reds really show these snakes off in person IMHO.

I agree....the darker colors are very nice.....esp if mixed with some bright yellows or oranges.

Here's a pic of my bairdi also from Tim. Yours & mine may very well be siblings, depending on which adult breeders they came from. Post some pics when you get them. They produce some large babies.

possibly siblings to one or the other......apparently i am getting a male from one female and a female from the other....both from the same daddy tho......(lets hope one turns out as bright as him!!!!!)

awesome animal either way......great contrast and color.....the blotches are even redish in the middle (from what i can see)

cant wait to see how they turn out as they mature.....we will need to take comparison pics

gosh darn you jimmy.....lol

Kind of interesting the way your Mex Bairds head is the color of the Tex and vice versa. Starting to warm up to those Mexi's - I'm an easy mark.

Paul -
I have several Texas bairds breeders that are mine and I have Steve and Kelli Hammacks baird collection on loan. Steve and Kelli Hammack have a greaat collection of both Texas and Mexican bairds and I couldn't resist the opportunity to work with them. Steve collected one of the pairs of Mexicans himself on a permit back in 1985. Conting their bairds on loan, I have the 3 pairs of Mexican bairds breeders that are Steve and Kelli Hammack and 4 pairs of Texas bairds of which 2 are the Hammacks and 2 are mine. I have severals subadults and yearlings. Some are mine and some are the Hammacks. I have a couple pairs of Mexican bairds I bought from the Hammacks that will be breedable in 2 seasons. I have some yearlings and offspring that I received or will have gotten that come from w/c parents from different locales. I get some in trades. Bairds rat snakes always fascinated me from the day I got my first trio of Texas bairds. A year later, I wanted some Mexican bairds. I've really been into bairds about 5 years now.

I like the obsoleta complex and have tried to get a pair or trio from the ones that I have to get or I'll explode. I had a trio of deckerts that I sent to someone who really liked them. They may have bred this year, but I imagine next season. I had a pair of black ratsnakes that came from a gravid female collected in Guthrie, KY courtesy of Dwight Good. I have a trio of white oak phase gray rat snakes that are yearlings now. I was hoping to get a pair or trio from Dwight Good, but I received these in a trade and they are really nice too. I favor the everglades right now. I sort of put mine together from different people either in trades or they just sent one to me. That's how I put my everglades group together. My female Marcia Lincoln came from Dangerous Dan Felice. I didn't even know what a Marcia Lincoln bloodline glades meant until Dan asked me if I would be interested in her and gave me one of his famous email crash courses in glades. Dan is the one who emailed me on how to set up a cage for spilotes. I had received a male LTC spilotes in a trade. It never ate for me. I tried, but he wouldn't cooperate. He didn't make it. I was bummed and said I would never have a spilotes again even though I had wanted one for several years before I got the one that didn't survive. Dan read one of my posts about how I killed a spilotes and wouldn't keep one again. Dan told me how to set up a cage for spilotes. He said he was male heavy with spilotes and would send me one if I set the cage up the way he does. I decided to give it a try and began to acquire the materials to build a cage based on the description Dan emailed me. I had to build the cage and send him a few pics of it before he sent me the spilotes. I got the spilotes from Dan and was nervous that I would kill him and I didn't know how that would go over with me. The male spilotes ate from the start and I even picked up a female. I had the hypo looking everglades that was actually thrown in with a shipment I was getting. The person just threw it in at the last moment and told me about it later. I traded him for 1.3 corns that were going to be a project. The male amel glades was given to me by friend who knew I had the Marcia Lincoln female and this male would be a great match being that the amel gene in the male is from the Marcia Lincoln bloodline. I bred them this past season and got a few offspring that are het for amel. I have a wishlist for snakes I want and keep an eye out for, but also I acquire snakes that cross my path and catch my eye. I better stop my rambling for now. Here's a Dwight Good produced lavender black rat snake that I received a year ago.
