Getting my frog to unbury?

CokeOfMan Oct 21, 2004 01:03 PM

My frog has been buried for over a month now, maybe nearly two months. Though two days ago, he had unburied (if that is a word?) himself (May have been because I gently removed some substrate from him. It is only about 1 cm of substrate above him), and the next morning he was back under. I'm not sure weather he was hibernating or not though, I didn't really see the layer around him, that people say they get. The skin looked somewhat glossy though. Well, I didn't feed him that night and thought I'd feed him crickets (instead of earthworms) the next day, since I were out of them.
I don't want my frog to unbury because I don't see him, I know it's normal behavior to bury and I have no problem with that. What I am wondering though is if it is normal for the frogs to lay buried for as long as nearly 2 months, without hibernating or feeding. And also, I asume he will unbury when he is hungry, but is this always the case? And the title of the post isn't really correct, for my question.
And btw I have a pacman.

I have a pac-man that is constantly buried. I throw in a few crickets every couple of days and at night he will unbury to eat. If not I just remove them the next day but most of the time he eats them all. By the time I look the next morning he is buried again. IMO it is normal.

Bump the temps a couple of degrees and wet the tank down. This will indicate that it is the wet season and bring the frog out. If it is a male, he may show his appreciation by serenading you at three in the morning.

I know what you mean man, my lil guy did the same thing. He buried humself for over a month and a half and didn't eat or move hardly at all. After a while he slowly started coming out more, but he still likes to stay buried. Just kinda like a fasting thing I think. Don't worry too much

Well, he/she is pretty much unburied now. Just a small layer of soil covering him/her. I'll try feeding him tomorrow.
Thanks for the replys.
