Help - My uro never comes out anymore!

jetsgirl10 Oct 21, 2004 01:11 PM

Hi everyone, I am new to the list. My name is jacki, I have my mali uromastyx, "scooter", for about 4-5 years now (i'm guessing). I didn't buy him as a baby from the pet store either, so I don't know how old he was then. He's pretty big now, and I feed him a diet of escarole mixed with chicory (he doesn't like any other greens and wont eat them) and I give him dried split peas and lentils which he likes to snack on. He is in a 30-long tank with a repti-sun 5.0 and a 150 watt basking light. The "cool" end is about 80 degrees, while the "hot" end is usually around 100-110 degrees. My problem is this: He never comes out of his hidebox anymore. He will go for days at a time without coming out to eat or anything. I even sometimes lift the hidebox just to make sure he is ok, and he's usually in there looking listless with his eyes open. I don't know if he's sick, I don't think he is, because the other weekend I took him out of his hidebox and just held him for a while, and the next morning he came out and was running around the tank all crazy, playing, digging, basking, doing the glass dance and being normal. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I should do for him? Thanks, Jacki and Scooter

He might be in shed. Mine when their shed is about to start get rather grumpy and skittish and stay hidden for several days.
