Solid Black Lining found on het Pieds

NJTom732 May 15, 2003 08:36 AM

It would be very helpfull and interesting to see what the Southerlands and or the Barkers have to say about this???

Thanks Tom in NJ

Apparently this is how some of the first successful breeders were able to choose their het for Pieds. These are from the Cypress Creek Bloodline. All of Tom's 100% hets have these solid black lines along their bellies and only 1:5 of the 50% had them. But the ones that did, really did!

I really can not answer this question as we have not produced piebalds yet this season from hets or possible hets. I can tell you that not all 100% het pieds have the lines you are talking about and there are a lot of normals that have those same lines so I personally would not belive that 100%.

Corey Woods or anyone know where some good pictures are of these sporadic signs of hets for the Burmese pattern mutations Granite and Green? I don't have any explanation for why they would show up in some hets and not others or even a feel for how often they show up and if it's more common in some lines than others but it does set precedence that at least it's possible there might be a sporadic "tell" for het piebald. However, it would be unfortunate that with this possible tell for het piebald that it isn't that uncommon in non-het balls. I think at least with the Burm tells you can be pretty sure if you do see it you are looking at a het even though you don't see it in all hets.
