I think we've got eggs!

maneatingorchid Oct 21, 2004 02:45 PM

I think our Tinuviel is going to lay eggs. She's getting lumpy, at this point, I can feel round masses, it feels like 7, but I can see 3 lumps on the left that look kind of like big ribs at this point. She's eating ravenously, the other day she ate 3 nightcrawlers, and had two yesterday, and has been eating more out of the superworm dish. I orally gave her calcium once a week ago. Should I do more? She's a fairly small girl, only 10 inches STL.

Awesome!! If you can feel multiple masses I'd say its a sure thing! When they first get to the point where you can see them it does look like you are seeing ribs. Next you won't see much of anything but the eggs.

If she is eating 3 nightcrawlers at a sitting I wouldn't worry too much about the calcium suppliment. If she is eating any other feeders I would dust them with a good vitamin suppliment. I really feel my little ones do well with Sticky Tongue Farms Miner-al I.

At 10" you could be surprised at how well she can still do. I have had small girls lay 20 eggs and come back just fine. Keep in mind that it will take a few days or even a couple of weeks to get her back up to par after she lays.

I looked up your post about Beren and her being caught in the act and I would guess that she was at it before then if the eggs are showing now. It has been almost 2 months and the eggs don't usually show this soon. So, who's the father? I would be prepared for multiple clutches. Be ready to fatten her back up quickly. Try a pinky mouse or two well dusted with vitamin powder after she lays the first clutch.

Congrats!!

I think it still might be Beren, we just never saw them because it was the school year, and we weren't around much. I definately don't think it's our other male becuase he isn't very social with the other dragons.
A question: What type social interaction do you see with your dragons? When Luthien was ailing, Tinuviel would try to get over to her, and they seem to watch each other. Tinuviel also tends to follow Beren around the cage, and she likes to settle next to him, but head bobs aggressively at Barahir. I've gotta start taking some detailed notes.

I haven't really observed that type of relations with mine. I did see one of the young, just mature CBs this morning next to Luke and Luke was bobing with his mouth open. He usually is a loner but if he is isolated from the rest of the group, like in a different cage, he won't even eat! Has to be with the haram! Seems to know when to chase though! LOL!

Got them this weekend, from 2 maybe 3 of the fremales
I have one batch of 11, one of 13 and a single egg I found laying out next to the water dish
I have them all in one of the Nightcrawler boxes, with damp vermiculite, in y room that is (now) in the mid 70s.
The kids were WAY excited to see me digging up the pan, and when i found the first batch, I was happy, but they seemed to have been there a day or more (Peat had darkened the eggs a bit) but the others were mostly all white, and we had seen one of the dragons doing the headbutting thing to the dirt. I leveled out the soil, and rearainged the entire insides of the habitat (moved the water dish, and the soil and the feed dish)

I hope things go better this time around

Best of luck Elizebeth and M.E.O.
Very glad to hear about the clutches. Hope your females make quick recoveries.
I still have two very fat and unhappy looking dragons. No eggs yet.

actually none of mine are eating the way I would like. I keep the worms dish fresh and full, and i do see one or another go and eat a worm, but as a mammal i KNOW they should be eating more. I finally got the heater in my room working better, so the temps are back into the mid to high 70s (they were at or just under 70 for a while) so maybe thats part of it.

I have a bazillion Worms, so I can keep the dish full as fast as they want to empty it

The kids LOVE spraying everyone, the tree is officially dead, but they still climb all over it, maybe for the best, I have 3 screen climbers (one is the female that dropped the eggs first, She looks deflated, but still has a belly to her) and 3 Trunk huggers (one is the other female i KNEW was gravid, and the other Female I thoguht might be could be the one who dropped the one egg out of the dirt by the water dish. Tripod is not really a Trunk hugger, he goes from screen to branch to trunk, to Dirt, to waterdish (he is the one who LOVES playing int he water) and then back to the screen (HIM I can identify most of the timeLOL, the others its getting harder to tell one from the other)

I will tell you if any of the eggs plump up in a few weeks

I hope they go better too. Remember, try to keep them cool! I don't like my incubation box to go over 70 anymore. The babies just seem to be stronger when incubated under 70.
