I am looking into getting a ball as my first snake. Does anyone know if there are any "dwarf" balls, or anyone mating a smaller male to a smaller female. I would prefer max size to be 3 ft. Thanks.

Haven't heard of any dwarf ball pythons but you might want to check out Children's Pythons and Spotted Pythons. I have a 1 1/2 year old ball python that is 37 inches. Ball pythons can get up to 6 ft. but I would consider that few. Mostly 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet.

I have looked into children's and spotteds somewhat, but I have heard some mixed reviews about their attitude. I want a really docile snake. I also looked into rosy's and sand boas, but their heads are too streamlined with their bodies. I also don't want a snake that stays burrowed under the sand all the time. Any other suggestions would be great.

Try the Epicrates cenchria assissi, (north Brazilian Rainbow boa). neat little 'dwarf' boa with a boas head. laid back, easy to accomodate and not too expensive. Plus the fact that you don't need to buy an incubator if they breed. Eric

If you don't want a sand boa because you don't want a snake that's hidden away all the time, don't get a ball.

A ball python, in the correct setup, is hidden beneath a hide.

Remember, a good rule of thumb for almost all reptiles is : A happy herp is a hidden herp.

just an opinion, because i dont know why you want a smaller snake than a ball.....you can just buy a baby ball, by the time it grows up you will be comfortable with it if you arent real comfortable with snakes yet.

secret nobody told me....(till it was too late)

snakes are like frito-lays,
you cant have just one.

I know a guy that has a female that first bred under 1,000 grams. Still, I think she is over 3 feet and no guarantee her babies will stay smaller than average.
