HI, I have been looking around the net for a good vitamin/mineral supplement that is not just ground up oyster shell and doesn't smell like vitamins. Mine don't like the smell and I must say I agree with them. I have seen salad toppers and that nexton or whatever it is called. I have use the nexton or whatver its called before and I like it, and so do my lizards, but it pretty expensive. If anyone knows of a good supplement, please let me know. I have heard vitamins a minerals are more easily absorbed if they are in food and not just a powder.
I have seen "barley grass" for sale in health stores and it is suppose to be one of those "miracle foods". I have seen the nutritional information and it is very impressive. This is a quote from a site on barley grass:
"When barley leaves are 12-14 inches high, they contain many vitamins, minerals, and proteins necessary for the human diet, plus chlorophyll. These are easily assimilated throughout the digestive tract, giving our bodies instant access to vital nutrients. These include potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorus, manganese, zinc, beta carotene, B1, B2, B6, C, folic acid, and pantothenic acid. Indeed, green barley juice contains 11 times the calcium in cows' milk, nearly 5 times the iron in spinach, 7 times the vitamin C in oranges, and 80 mg of vitamin B12 per hundred grams.
I know it does not have everything that igs need, but it has a lot of great stuff. Could I feed it to my igs, or possibly sprinkle the powder form over their food. I would still use normal supplementation, but I think this stuff would make supplementation less nessecary all of the time. Hope to get a response soon, jrbl
