Gerber daisy petals safe for Uros?...

saxxy27 Oct 21, 2004 05:03 PM

I just brought home my first baby Mali uro last week. He (she? only time will tell I guess!) is doing great, but I have a question about food items. I grow Gerber daisies (from seeds, so I KNOW they are chemical-free), and those bright petals look like something that could potentially be a tasty treat for my new baby. I tried searching the forums first, but all I've discovered is that a lot of people name their uros "Daisy," apparently, lol.

I do, however, know that even if the flowers are safe to feed, that they shouldn't be a diet staple -- he's happily eating dandelion greens and various squashes as his "main course," and this morning I put a blueberry in his salad as a treat. I know I could feed him hibiscus flowers (which are plentiful in S. FL), but I don't grow any myself, so I'd rather not take that risk.

Thanks!

Holly

try deerfernfarms.com they have alot of info about plants that can be eaten and their nutrient content. it is also a good website to read for any uro owner.
that is pretty funny, though, about searching for "daisy"
welcome to the forum and you may as well post a pic because everyone is going to ask you for one
