Feeding cup ?

ta2edskin Oct 21, 2004 05:08 PM

I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to make one. Right now I am using a small glass that sits on the bottom of the cage. The food doesn`t get out and he is eating all the food I put in there. Thanks Steve

Hey Vince, 2 questions about those feeder cups. If Im sussposed to dust(and i do), how can i keep it on the cricket if it gets sprayed by my mister, and, will my cham try to eat crickets thru the plastic see thru cup. Ive never used a clear feeding cup, but i would if he wouldnt shoot his tongue at it. I need to come up with a way to attach feeding cups to the screen lke you have. Thanks for the tips...

Greg

all i do is get one of those red plastic dixie cups, cut two small holes in the side and attach some twisty ties to them and then through the screen. i was using a see through gladware but my cham would always shoot at the bottoms and sides.

We dust the crickets prior to placing them in the feeding cups. We hang the cup out of the path of the mister so that the crickets don't get wet (which is on the door of the cage).

The cups we use are not entirely transparent. It is a soup container. The chameleon can see thru it just enough to know that there is food in there, yet also know that his tongue can't shoot thru it.

In regards to hanging the cup, it will depend on your cage. We lined the inside of the cage with plastic green mesh w/ very large holes. This mesh also helps them climb, and prevents them from losing their nails. The cup hangs from the green mesh.

Notice in the bottom pic how the chameleon is holding onto the mesh, versus using his nails in the screen. Underneath him, you will see how the feeding cup is hung from the mesh.

Here is another version of the feeding cup/bin..
Some chameleons are wary about shooting down into cups.
(most panthers I've seen could care less however
If the previous style doesn't work for you, give this one
a try.
