Sinaloan Injured?

ryang Jun 28, 2003 11:54 PM

I fed my sinaloan 2 hoopers 2 weeks ago i thought i had killed both of them, but when she grabbed onto it it whiiped around and (i think) bit her on the side of her head, so she went to another corner of the cage and i killed the hopper and pulled her out to inspect her, there was nothing oozing out nor did it look like anything serious. but two weeks later and a few days into her shed, that side of her face seems a little swollen. Ive turned up her under-tank heater to heat her up to combat any types of infections, but should i get anything to treat her with (whether it be antibiotics for injections or for her water) or should i just pull her out once a day clean her with slighlty diluted peroxide and leave her heater up a little bit?

The last thing i want is a dead snake on my hands, plus shes too damn beautiful to die.

Any advice/thoughts are appreciated.

always use frozen/thawed.

I'd raise the cage temps a little, up to about 93 f. on the warm end and about 83 to 85 f. on the cool end to stimulate her immune system. Keep the cage scrupulously clean and watch her carefully. If there's just a minor infection, she can probably handle it herself. If it shows signs of further swelling or other problems take her to a vet. They will probably use an injectible antibiotic such as Baytril.

She may be stressed enough not to eat for a while now, not to mention that that side of her face may be too painful to eat until it's healed. If it looks like it's healing OK over the next several days, then just offer her a FROZEN/THAWED fuzzie every 2 or 3 days until she decides to eat again.

well i fed her a fuzzy today killed it first, and she ate that up, so thats a good sign that shes still eating.
