colors of a sick chameleon

loko Oct 22, 2004 01:22 AM

remember? yussuf, my cham is sick...
further down the threads i asked for different things to feed him with a syringe.. lele then asked how he actually is...

not well i have to say - unfortunately. he still gets his antibiotics daily and keeps his eyes closed most of the time.

what happened lately is that he changed colour.
the whole cham got very light pastel colours going mostly into a very creamy light green. around his nose he is yellowish.

i suspect that around his nose (where the internal infection is) he lost control of the color changing mechanism. meaning that the melanin is all drawn in, leaving the uppermost layer (chromatophores i believe) which is brigt yellow.

about the rest of his body turning brighter and brighter i am not sure.
has this something to do with his weakness?
are these light colours the veiled cham "factory default"?`

what do you all think about that?

As I said earlier this is probably another sign that he's close to death. Many chams show a lighter brighter color at death, sometimes the brightest they have ever looked. Sometimes it is similar to their sleep color. Sadly I think he's just continuing down the same path. It would be humane to have him euthanized by a vet at this point.

some 20 hours ago i brought him to his vet for hospitalization.
he wanted to give him an infusion of NaCl and antibiotics.
we agreed that he'll check on him this evening and decide wether to put him to sleep or carry on.

whatever is best for the lil bugger....

I'm sorry he's so sick. It's always hard when one of your animals is not feeling well, even when it's minor... I wish you the best for him, whatever that may be. =(...
