Keeping mealworms

fun5oh Oct 22, 2004 02:10 AM

Hi there!
I am wondering the best way to keep and gutload mealworms. I really have no desire to breed them right now as I hate beetles! I buy them and put them in the fridge, but they get no nutrition while they are in there ( dormant almost, right?)
Could someone share with me how I go about keeping and gutloading about 100 mealworms a week?
Thank you,
Robin

i gutload the whole order (1000 every 3-4 months) for 24 hrs right when i get them. Then i put them in the fridge, taking about a weeks worth of them with me to gutload. I gutload every single one for 24 hrs like every 3 weeks so i know they won't die.

Easiest thing to do for a cup of 100 is to take it out once or twice a week and add one baby carrot and some cricket chow. Leave them out overnight to feed. In the morning remove any un-eaten carrot and put them back in the fridge.

Make sure you remove what you are going to feed off several hours before offering to your herp and allow them to feed so they are well gutloaded.
